Recensione/review: The goddess test di Aimée Carter

In questo post vi parlerò di un libro che ho letto in lingua e che mi è davvero piaciuto molto, anche questa volta il mio istinto non ha sbagliato ;) Voglio fare un esperimento e scrivere la recensione sia in italiano che in inglese per rendere il blog un pò più "international", ci sarà da ridere xD

Recensione

Kate non è decisamente una ragazza come tante altre: da quando sua madre ha scoperto di essere gravemente malata, 4 anni prima, la sua vita sociale si è ridotta a zero, impedendole di stringere amicizia con i suoi compagni di classe. Le sue giornate le trascorreva badando alla madre, accompagnandola alle sedute di chemio e studiando per non rimanere indietro e darle ulteriori preoccupazioni. Quando sente di essere ormai giunta alla fine, sua madre esprime il desiderio di morire nel paese della sua infanzia, abbandonando la fredda e caotica New York per ritrovare la serenità dei boschi e la freschezza dell'aria pura; assecondandola, Kate si ritroverà a dover prendere il diploma in una scuola dove lei non conosce nessuno ma tutti sanno chi è lei e perchè si trova lì. Una notte, vittima di uno scherzo di pessimo gusto orchestrato dalla ragazza più popolare, Kate incontrerà Henry, uno strano quanto affascinante ragazzo che le proporrà un patto assurdo, ma ciò che le viene offerto in cambio è troppo importante per pensare di rinunciare..

Questo libro è decisamente il mio preferito per ora tra le letture del 2012 :)
Il tema della mitologia greca, alla base del romanzo, si fonde perfettamente con la vita quotidiana di Kate, tanto che alla fine ci si ritrova con una rivelazione sorprendente. Sono criptica perchè non voglio svelare troppe cose xD Abbiamo capito che Henry è Ade, accettando questo fatto si presume che anche gli altri dei siano presenti nella grande villa dove Kate è costretta a trascorrere i 6 mesi invernali: solo che fino all'ultimo non si sa di preciso chi siano :) Non pensate a Starcrossed, a mio avviso questo libro gli è di gran lunga superiore sia per la trama che per lo stile; ottime le descrizioni delle emozioni che Kate prova mano a mano che i giorni passano, intenso il senso di impotenza di Henry di fronte al suo eventuale fallimento. Il mio personaggio preferito è senza dubbio Ella, con la sua apparente austerità; mi è piaciuto un pò meno il repentino cambiamento di Ava (la ragazza popolare) nei confronti di Kate.

Vi consiglio vivamente di leggerlo anche se non avete mai letto in lingua, il lessico è di immediata comprensione ^^

Kate is definitely not a girl like many others: since her mother discovered she was seriously ill, 4 years before, her social life was reduced to zero, preventing her from making friends with his classmates. She spent her days looking after her mother, taking her to the sessions of chemotherapy and studying to avoid her more worries. When she feels to be by now at the end, her mother expressed a wish to die in the small town of her childhood, leaving the cold and chaotic New York to find the peace of the woods and the fresh pure air; agreeing with her, Kate will have to graduate in a school where she knows no one but everyone knows who she is and why she's there. One night, victim of a bad taste joke orchestrated by the most popular girl, Kate meets Henry, a strange and fascinating guy who proposes her a weird deal, but what is offered in return is too important to even think about giving up..

This is for now my favourite book of 2012 :) The theme of Greek mythology, which is the basis of the novel, blends perfectly with the daily life of Kate, so that finally you end up with a startling revelation. We know that Henry is Hades, accepting this fact it's assumed that the other gods are present in the large mansion where Kate is forced to spend 6 months of the year, except that until the end you don't know exactly who they are! Don't you think about Starcrossed, in my opinion this book is far greater to both the plot and the style: excellent the descriptions of the emotions that Kate feels as the days pass, really heavy Henry's sense of helplessness for its eventual failure. My favorite character is definitely Ella, with her apparent austerity; I liked less the sudden change of Ava (the popular girl) in relation to Kate.
