Book Blitz: Bending the rules di L.K. Lewis + giveaway

Buongiorno :) Eccoci ad un nuovo book blitz, ideato come sempre da Giselle di Xpresso Book Tours; oggi vi presento il secondo volume di una serie new adult contemporanea, come sempre spero possa piacervi :)

Titolo: Bending the rules
Autore: L.K. Lewis
Genere: New Adult contemporaneo romance
Trama: Struggling to get her life back on track after being left suddenly and inexplicably by (secret) boyfriend –not- boyfriend and boss Drake Baylor Jr., Morgan Lane searches the globe to find Drake knowing that the only way to truly live the life she’s worked so hard for is with him by her side.
Banished to Zurich, Switzerland by his father after being caught Breaking the Rules, Drake has nine months to get the European Division of Baylor Industries back on track. Again, he must obey the rules so that he can hopefully return to his life with Morgan and take the helm of Baylor Industries.
Everything is going according to plan as usual for Adrian Thompson who has just gotten Drake banished to Switzerland as part of his plan to get Morgan (his college sweetheart and hopefully future trophy wife) back in his life for good. With a little help from Lana Lane, Morgan’s mother, Adrian is hoping to have Morgan wearing his ring by New Year’s Eve.
After a few months of being wooed by old flame and now boss Adrian, and without so much as a word from Drake, Morgan hesitantly accepts Adrian’s invitation to join him for New Year’s Eve in St.Moritz Switzerland. Foiling Adrian’s plan, a “chance encounter” finds Morgan back in Drake’s arms.
Will Drake and Morgan be able to overcome the distance and time that is now between them along with a few of the hurdles that life has thrown their way? Morgan and Drake are once again faced with figuring out how to start their new future together- this time not Breaking the Rules, only Bending them.

Morgan

“Hi, sweetie!” my mom answers the phone cheerfully. She obviously has put the “happy” in “happy hour” today.
“Hi, Mom.” I do my best to hold back my sniffle and speak in a clear voice, but fail miserably.
“Morgan, what’s wrong?” I never cry in front of my parents, so hearing a sob of any kind is cause for concern for my mother.
“Oh, Mom. It’s all screwed up,” I sob into the phone, while racing around my apartment trying to get packed for a trip with no real destination or timeframe.
“Okay, Morgan, slow down and take a deep breath,” my mom says as I envision her closing her eyes and doing her deep yoga breathing, while touching her thumbs to middle fingers and chanting “om” as she’s done so many times during my life. “Now tell me, darling, what is ‘all screwed up’?”
“Everything!” I continue to sob. “Everything is screwed up. I’ve lost Drake, I quit my job, and now I’m packing for a flight to God knows where, to search for the love of my life and bring him back, only I don’t have a clue where to start, and I can’t reach him.”
“You quit your job, Morgan? What happened? And who is Drake? Not Drake Baylor… Morgan, please tell me you haven’t fallen for a married man. That’s completely distasteful and unladylike.”
“Drake Baylor Jr., Mom. Not Sr. We’ve been dating for a few months now, only he isn’t allowed to have a relationship if he wants to take over his father’s company, so we have been dating in secret. We are head over heels in love, Mom. We went to Vegas last weekend and he told me he hoped to take over Baylor Industries soon, and as soon as that happens he plans on marrying me. Now he’s gone and I can’t get ahold of him. I know something has happened and I’m worried about him. I have a feeling his father has shipped him off somewhere, or he was fired and needed to clear his head and figure out his next move, but either way I have to find him. He needs me and I need him. God, I’ve never needed anything so badly in my entire life. Anyway, I thought you would like to know I’m going to the airport tonight, and will call you when I land, wherever that may be.”
“Morgan, sweetie, I think you might be overreacting just a bit. Why don’t you just come home for a few days, regroup, and figure things out. I’ll take you shopping, what do you say?” My mom obviously wasn’t listening to anything but what she wanted to hear.
“I’m not overreacting, Mom. I’m simply reacting. My life has taken a sudden turn and for once in my life I’m grabbing the reins and taking control. I made the decision to break the rules with Drake just as much as he did. He’s out there somewhere fighting for me, and I need to step up and do the same.”

Drake

It took every last cell of energy in my body not to turn around when Morgan called my name. I saw her walking to the baggage claim and turned around hoping she wouldn’t notice me. Of course she did though, we’re drawn together. I could have been perfectly camouflaged into my surrounding and she still would have sensed me in the room. It absolutely kills me that I can’t talk to her but I know that if I give in and break the rules even just this time, my father will find out and even the last month or so without her will be for nothing.
I want to run and grab her, have that moment that movies are made for when I call her name and we run toward each other with smiles, and tears, and don’t stop until we crash into one another all lips and teeth and kisses and hands in hair passion while those witnessing clap and cheer and cry. But instead I play by the rules, only bending them slightly as I play voyeur, watching her every move as she collects her bag, calls for a cab, takes a hopeful yet heavy hearted breath and departs from the airport and my presence once again.

Morgan

“Morgan, where are you, are you alright? It’s late,” Amanda asks as she picks up the phone, her husky sleep voice barely audible.
“I’m sorry, I forgot about the time change. I just woke up. I’m stuck in a Paris hangover.”
“A Paris what? Morgie, I know I’m half asleep, but that doesn’t even come close to making sense,” Amanda mumbles into the phone.
“A Paris hangover. I don’t know, I just made it up. It’s like I’m here, in the city of love. A city with so much history and so many things to see. I should be out enjoying my day, but I’m in bed with a headache, trying not to throw up. It’s like when you party hard on Saturday, and you wake up Sunday and it’s such a beautiful day outside. You know you should be out enjoying the last few moments of your weekend but all you can manage to do is lie bed with a killer headache trying not to puke and all you want is some glorious McDonald’s Angel to show up at your door with a fountain Coke and fries,” I explain.
“I understand. So why don’t you feel well? Did you pick up a bug with all of the recycled air on your flight?” Amanda asks. She’s starting to sound a little more awake which I’m grateful for, but feel bad for waking her up.
“No, I’ve been here for a week now looking for Drake, if it was the recycled plane air I would have come down with something sooner I think.”
“Then what is it, Morgan?”
“He’s not here, Amanda. He’s supposed to be here. I’ve searched everywhere. He’s supposed to be here, and he’s not…WHERE IS HE?” I start to sob into the phone.
“Shh. Don’t cry, Morgan. You’ll find him. He’s out there somewhere, he has to be. You know he loves you,” Amanda says, trying to soothe me.
“He is out there somewhere, just not any place I’ve looked. Maybe he doesn’t want to be found. At least not by me. I’ve gone everywhere looking for him. I really thought I’d find him, Amanda. I thought I’d find my happiness. What do I do now?”
“Oh, Morgan, I’m so sorry. I wish you could have found Drake. You’re right… maybe he doesn’t want to be found right now. Maybe he’s still working things out for himself. You said his father dissolved his position. That’s a huge blow for someone who has worked so hard to get his life on track. Maybe he’s still working out a way to give you the life you’ve always wanted. You told me he wants to do that for you. Morgan, you said he told you in Vegas he couldn’t wait to marry you. Maybe time alone is exactly what he has needed, that’s why he isn’t there looking for you too. You know I love you more than anything, Morgan, but you might not like what I’m about to say…maybe it’s time to come home, put your big girl panties on, get a job, and face life in the real world again.”

ESTRATTO

Sara Fairchild stared at the three men and two women who surrounded her with hard eyes. They had cornered her in an alley. But only because she wanted them to. She was having a bad day, might as well end it right. Feet planted firmly in the dry dirt, she called out to the group arrayed in a semi-circle around her, “Nice day for a fight, isn’t it?”
The woman to her right wore a raggedy scarf around her hair and her ears were covered in at least five earrings per a lobe. She glared and said, “You think you’re funny, girl?”
Sara watched as the woman spit into the dirt before her in disgust.
“Your da was a disgrace,” the woman continued. “You’re just like him. A coward.”
“And a cheat!” said the man directly in front of her. He nervously fingered a blade in his hands. It was a poorly crafted one. That Sara could tell from five feet away. She stood in front of him with her back-up against the wall. She wasn’t carrying her broadsword but she did have one fine long knife at her waist, a dagger on her thigh, and a baton she’d lifted from a city patrolman in her right hand.
“Is that so?” Sara said directing her voice at the man in front of her, “And what, pray tell, did I cheat you of Simon Codfield?”
Her tone was level. Even surprised. He shifted warily. He was nervous even with four of his friends to back him up. When the people standing with him began to look at him oddly, he stiffened his back. Simon licked his lips and said, “Cards. I know you had an extra ace in your belt. Admit it now and we’ll only beat you two ways until Sunday.”
She titled her head, “And if I admit it later?” Even he couldn’t miss the derision in her voice.
“We’re trying to go easy on you,” said Simon Codfield – his voice dipping into desperation. He might be a liar as well as a thief, but he was no fool. Sara knew the only reason he and his crew had followed her into this alley was because if he didn’t accuse her, he would have to take the fall for loosing over forty shillings in a card game that started off over a bet of five. She knew and he knew that he didn’t have forty shillings to give. That was one month’s pay for a dockworker, never mind a ne’er-do-well like Simon who hadn’t worked an honest job a day in his life.
“Tell you what. Why don’t you drop those trousers of yours? Then we’ll call it even,” said the thief lord in charge of the west district of Sandrin. She turned to face the man who had spoken. He rubbed a hand over his two-day old beard with a grin.
Sara brought up the long knife in her left hand, “Why don’t you drop yours, Severin, so that I can cut off your balls for you?”
Anger flashed in the thief lord’s eyes. Anger and passion. Sara smiled. She wasn’t joking.
If she got close enough to him, she’d make him a eunuch without batting an eye. Simon Codfield gulped and took a step back. He knew she wasn’t playing around.

Book Blitz: All my restless life to live di Dee De Tarsio + giveaway

Chiudiamo la giornata un nuovo book blitz, ideato come sempre da Giselle di Xpresso Book Tours; questa volta vi presento un romance che ha attirato la mia attenzione per la cover, non vi sembra carina? :)

Titolo: All my restless life to live
Autore: Dee De Tarsio
Genere: Adult romance
Trama: Life is a soap opera, especially for Elle Miller, who is a TV producer. (Ellen dropped the “n” in her name in hopes of finding a better ending for herself.) When her laptop crashes, she borrows her dead dad’s computer and gets way more than she bargained for.
As Elle tries to save her career with a storyline featuring a trip through Atlantis, she takes a trip to the Emmys, and finds herself in the middle of a romance between a real doctor and a hunk who just plays one on TV. Friends, family, and clues from “the other side” all help Elle figure out the difference between living the good life... and living a good life.

Visualizzazione di Dee.jpgDee DeTarsio is a graduate of The Ohio State University and lives in southern California with her family. She did not teach herself to read at an early age or write stories by the time she was in kindergarten. She was still wetting the bed and playing in the can cupboard.

ESTRATTI

#1

I thought “Elle” sounded so much more Californian than the pigtails-with-freckles name of “Ellen.” Growing up I had always hated my plain-Jane name and wished I had gotten the bright idea much sooner, say in the sixth grade. I could still hear the scars being carved. “Ellen, shuck the corn. Ellen, your ground bologna sandwich is ready. Ellen, it’s time for church.” My parents didn’t get it. My dad had never remembered to call me by my new, sophisticated label. I missed my dad and the way he called me Ellen.

#2

There were one or two studio computers networked together, but one was missing a mouse and the other had a yellowed monitor that you would have sworn smoked three packs of cigarettes a day and looked like you could play Pong on it. (Look it up. I would, but I don’t have a computer, remember?) Just like in the old-timey days of Don Draper, when geniuses needed their favorite pen and ice-clinking, crystal-glassed drinks, I needed my laptop. Call me superstitious, but I did my best work that way. Besides, Information Technology was a non-existent department at the studio, since management seemed to think “IT” stood for sex, and therefore wasn’t going to pay for it when they could screw everybody for free. I had to figure this out.

#3

I laughed. Giggled, actually. I didn’t know why I felt so happy. A low-
pitched voice hummed between the beeps of some kind of monitor. Was somebody playing with the hospital props again? The voice got louder.
“I’m Quez Shirrock. Can you hear me?” Uh huh, I thought, still smiling.
And I’m Betty Rubble. Quez Shirrock. Liam has really lost it. That is the worst soap opera name I have ever heard.
“Elle. Wake up.” The low, soothing sound of that voice vibrated to my very heart as I felt a hand touch my left breast. Yikes! Who’s feeling me up? My eyes flew open. What in the world?
Forget The Flintstones. It was Jon Snow. From Game of Thrones.
Without the accent and animal pelts. But with the same vulnerable, brooding, coal-black eyes. An odd, not unpleasant mix of peanut butter and cinnamon blew into my nostrils. He peered into my eyes.
“I know nothing, Jon Snow.” I must have said that aloud because his immobile, almost stern features, shifted as the corners of his mouth turned up. What was going on here? I turned my head. Nope, I wasn’t in the studio.
“You hit your head and fainted,” he said. I couldn’t think about him as Quez Shirrock, I was afraid I’d laugh in his face. “Do you remember anything?” he asked.
I shook my head no.
“They brought you up here, to Sharp Memorial Hospital. I’m a neurologist.” Of course you are. Quez Shirrock. Why couldn’t I keep the smile off my face?

Visualizzazione di KD.jpgK. D. McAdams writes stories about young people who make choices with their heart and not their head. ‘Don’t talk to strangers’ is the most common phrase in our house, I have failed several art classes and I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast. I have a son that loves to talk to strangers, my daughter is an incredible artist and I have another son that is a stickler for details with a near eidetic memory. We nurture our kids everyday with advice and information but deep down they all have an element of nature that overrides our nurturing and influences their choices. Kids who have the courage to follow their instinct and make their own choices are the ones who make life memorable.
