Recensione

Assolutamente consigliato!

Review

Maryah doesn't give up: after learning she's part of a large family of souls, called elements, which can preserve their memories of previous lives, the need to recover the memory grews more and more; thanks to some feelings she gets flashes of ancient memories, but the reason why she erased in her last life it's still unknown. With the help of the other elements Maryah spends most of her days trying to control her power, astral travelling, to help the family and finally find Harmony's soul mate, Gregory. But the enemy is always lurking, and when things finally seem to be going in the right direction he's back to hit more merciless than ever..

After reading the first book in this series I couldn't wait to dive again in the universe of this great family, to experience new and exciting adventures but also to deepen the knowledge of the characters that I liked so much. In this second book the storytellers are always two, but if the point of view of Maryah has been maintained, the same can't be said for Nathan, who was replaced by Harmony: the reason behind this choice is obvious, in the first book the story was all about Nathan and his attempts to bring Maryah back in his family, now we can follow more closely the efforts and progress made by Maryah but above all we can know better Harmony. If in the first book her character could seem unfriendly and even unpleasant, reading this book this idea will be turned upside down, replaced by the image of a girl upset by the pain of losing her soul mate, determined to have him back even if it means sacrificing her life; we also know something more about her power, the ability to communicate with spirits, and we can see a side of her that goes back to her previous lives, when she and Gregory were married and they had a son. Another character that I love to madness is Carson and fortunately in this second book he has so much more more space than in the previous one, as well as Krista: this is one of the many strong points of the series, the main character is always Maryah but in every book the author succeeds to fully develop the other characters, making them co-stars and not secondary characters. Another plus point of the author is undoubtedly the end: the reader has two options, if you love cliffhangers you can read an additional chapter which believe me, is really intense, if you prefer a softer end you can finish reading quietly and then read the additional chapter at the beginning of the third book; of course I read everything I could read, and now I can't wait to get my hands on Fighting for infinity!
Five stars are not enough for this series, it deserves a lot more :)
Absolutely recommended!

Recensione/review: Grasping at eternity di Karen Amanda Hooper

(You can read the review at the bottom of the post)
Buona lettura ^^

Titolo: Grasping at eternity
Autore: Karen Amanda Hooper
Editore: Starry Sky Publishing
Pagine: 368
Prezzo: 2,68€
Trama: Leave it to Maryah Woodsen to break the one rule that will screw up eternity: Never erase your memories.
Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable--she erased. Now, at seventeen years old, she's clueless that her new adoptive family has known her for centuries, that they are perpetually reincarnated souls, and that they have supernatural abilities. Oh, and she's supposed to love (not despise) Nathan, the green-eyed daredevil who saved her life.
Nathan is convinced his family's plan to spark Maryah's memory is hopeless, but his love for her is undying. After spending (and remembering) so many lifetimes together, being around an empty version of his soulmate is heart shattering. He hates acting like a stalker, but has no choice because the evil outcast who murdered Maryah in their last lifetime is still after her.
While Maryah's hunter inches closer, she and Nathan make assumptions and hide secrets that rip them further apart. Maryah has to believe in the magic within her, Nathan must have faith in the power of their love, and both need to grasp onto the truth before they lose each other forever-and discover just how lonely eternity can be.

Recensione

Assolutamente consigliato!

Review

Maryah’s life has turned into a nightmare when a group of men broke into her house and wiped out her family, for no apparent reason;  survived the brutal attack, Maryah temporarily lives with her aunt and uncle until her godmother Louise, a longtime friend of her mother, asks her to live with her family. Initially reluctant to leave her cousin, Maryah slowly begins to settle in her new home in Sedona thanks to the company of Louise’s big family, but something is wrong, Maryah lives more and more often with the feeling of déjà vu, some family members are particularly strong, others very fast, and then there's Nathan, Louise’s more mysterious son, with his character terribly confusing but really beautiful. How is it that Nathan looks like the mysterious angel of death Maryah sees since her aggression? After several events, however, the truth can no longer be silenced: Maryah is not who she thinks to be, and the attack which destroyed his family was not so random..

It’s rare to read a paranormal and remain totally disoriented, amazed by the story, the details, the characters of the novel; used as we are to vampires, werewolves, angels, demons and witches we are always impressed by the new creatures we see in  our readings. Grasping at eternity was able to surprise me: first volume of a series, this novel presents the Elements, creatures with various supernatural powers that can live infinite lives choosing whether or not to keep memories of their past lives. Rarely an element refuses the chance to bring back the memory of the past, but inexplicably Maryah has just made this decision: doing so, however, the girl has marked dramatically Nathan's life, her soul mate with whom she spent countless centuries on Earth, and now he has to succeed in awaken her memory. I won’t say anything else, I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I assure you that the plot is very rich as well as the characters are very different: the author has described Maryah and her condition as an orphan in an incredibly realistic way, her pain some times it’s almost tangible and leaves the pages to fully invest the readers; at the same time Nathan is going through a very delicate situation, he must deny his feelings not to scare Maryah with memories of their past lives but that makes him suffer, he feels like if a part of him is taken away. Alternating points of view of the two protagonists, the author offers two similar but at the same time opposite visions of their lives: on one side Maryah discovers everything for the first time, she learns something about the characters; on the other side instead Nathan, keeping his past knowledge, has already developed very intense relationships with various members of the family and often reveals aspects that otherwise we would not have the opportunity to know. Obviously the book is not just about Maryah’s memory leak, we also have some action in the fight with the bad guys, the enemies of the elements, but in this first book the author preferred to take time to
present her characters and their world; I think she made the right choice. I really loved this book, can’t wait to read the second one!
